The first things you need to know are: This difference is due to less time in melee range on targets in PVP. This is slightly increased by the meta bonus, which is why it is not exactly 1 to 1. Bleed ticks work the same way. You can also consider the added combo points from Primal Fury, but I don't think anyone wants to listen to me try to calculate how much this talent affects your damage. Yes it adds combo points, but if you have too much crit you have a higher probability of wasting combo points.
For the sake of argument, let's say Primal Fury dps bonus from the crit that you can reforge is marginal. Mastery is equal to crit when you do This is very conservative, and it's more likely that 1 point of mastery increases damage by somewhere around 1.
You also need to consider the intangibles - playstyle, pressure, burst, survivability, etc. I'll go more into this later, but basically you don't need to spend a ton of time queueing up attacks like a warrior does because your bleeds can tick so hard. Obviously you want to be in melee range as much as possible, but you should be DRing your CCs regularly even when not going for a kill.
You also are going to be shifting, CCing, and switching targets which reduces uptime. Your bleeds still tick though, and since mastery increases damage of your bleeds by about 3 times more than crit does, mastery is going to be more effective for the current playstyle. Mastery is also always in effect - if you have bleeds up you are getting full benefit of mastery.
There is no chance in the matter. Burst: The fact is that although mastery increases damage, it does not contribute to burst, and burst is what gets kills in PVP. This is the main reason why people argue for crit to be a better stat than mastery. Crits can potentially make your burst more threatening because adding a crit is like adding another attack in the same time period. You need to look at this from the right point of view, though.
Take for example a kill window of 8 seconds or so where you have the ability to utilize about 5 GCDs. Essentially you would get 1 extra attack in every other kill opportunity, which theoretically may or may not contribute to a kill.
The fact is none of them could crit during your kill window. In the long run, crit will increase some of your bursts, but it's not worth losing all the mastery you could get instead. Surviability: Crit and mastery also affect your bear survivability. Feral survivability is arguably the best of any class at the moment regardless of which stat you choose, but for sake of argument I'll discuss it.
Because vengeance was removed from PVP, you get less survivability from mastery because you absorb far less without the extra AP than you would from crit, but it doesn't mean much and you shouldn't factor this into your decision. Either is going to slightly increase your survivability. Last edited by Fanciful; at PM.
The best way to setup your gear is to start with a template of full PVP and start choosing PVE gear until you're happy with your resil. Full PVP works, but you are gimping your dps because you do not need all the resil and you'll be wasting itemization. About resil is what a lot of ferals are using, but again a lot depends on bracket, comp, playstyle, and skill level.
Many glad-range ferals are using 5k resil, others or so. At lower ratings and 2s, 5s, and RBGs, you can pass off lower resil. For instance, I regularly use resil in 2s. Below is the full PVP set that you should start your decision making with. I'd start with those and anything beyond that you should pick and choose for yourself depending on your comp, skill level, etc.
Both of these trinkets are better than any other options in arena and RBGs. Medallion of Tenacity is still the best you can get for FCing, and using both resil trinkets will work fine. As a general rule, use the highest ilvl weapon you have access to. If you have a good buff mod and are able to track Kiril uptime to synergize it with TF, trinkets, etc, you may like it better for bursts. The size buff can be annoying and some people have said they have had hitbox problems, but I have not had those issues myself.
If you aren't actively watching Kiril uptime, PVP staff is much better. I should note that watching Kiril buff uptime will distract you from other things you should be watching in PVP. You should have 2 epic blue spell pen gems and the spell pen cloak enchant to get this rating. Expertise: You can choose to reforge into expertise to reduce your chance to be dodged and parried.
Majority of ferals don't use expertise reforges. You lose a decent amount of mastery to get 14 expertise, though it is on some PVE gear so it's definitely not impossible to attain. It's really only noticeable on finishers - especially maims.
Some people also use it for its quality of life benefit so they don't have to worry about getting dodged when setting up a kill, for example. It's up to you and you can be successful with or without expertise. Meta: Agile Shadowspirit Diamond COMPS This list gives you an idea of popular and viable comps in which ferals are effective, but does not necessarily include all viable comps.
Since ferals synergize well with almost all classes, your comp depends more on how the others synergize. All talents and buffs such as Rend and Tear that work with bleeds work with both cat and bear bleeds. Although they deal physical damage, all bleeds ignore armor. Rip ticks every 2 seconds, while Rake, Pounce, and Lacerate deal damage every 3 seconds. Bleed damage is calculated based on a snapshot of your attack power, mastery, and damage buffs such as Tiger's Fury from the time of applying.
If you use an agility trinket 5 sec after the bleed was applied, the damage from subsequent ticks will not increase as a result of increased AP. In contrast, crit chance is dynamic and the crit chance of the subsequent ticks will increase as a result of the agility trinket.
Refreshing bleeds does not reset the tick timer. If you refresh a bleed with 1 second left on the bleed, it will still tick in 1 second as it would have, and then continue on for the full length of the refreshed bleed.
The first tick following your refresh will count as the beginning of the new bleed cast with a new snapshot of damage stats.
Mangle dynamically affects bleed damage because it affects damage taken rather than damage dealt. That is, there is no need to refresh bleeds just because you applied the mangle debuff after applying bleeds without it.
Lacerate ticks have a chance to proc an instant bear Mangle for free. Stampede gives you a free Ravage when you use Feral Charge: Cat. This is a very important part of feral dps because it does damage and generates CP without using energy.
Keep this in mind especially when switching targets with Feral Charge: Cat. Please keep the following in mind when posting a comment: Your comment must be in English or it will be removed.
